Successful Camgirl Tips- Roselynn Locks on Why and What Webcam Models Should Outsource

In my many years as a camgirl and content producer (closing in on 8 of them at the time the article is written), I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. That’s what a lot of us girls do.  We normally start out at this alone, hiding it from many, scouring blogs and message boards for information and trying to sort through what’s good advice and what’s not.  And we try. Sometimes we fail, sometimes we hit home runs, we move forward from there, and keep adjusting.  One thing I’ve learned in my many years in business for myself both in the adult industry and elsewhere, however, is that it’s far easier to learn from someone ELSE’S mistakes.  So here’s some information I have to offer up to you from my experience, so that you hit more home runs sooner in your journey to becoming a successful camgirl.

There’s a certain sense of pride we gain as entrepreneurs starting out.  Especially in such a hush hush business.  We endlessly consume so much information and learn to do so much on our own, and it feels great! But eventually, we get to a point where we just can’t take on more.  We can’t take on more hours, we can’t take on more tasks. We can’t grow.  We can’t scale.  The most successful in this business realize this and they outsource.  The least successful either realize this and don’t outsource or don’t realize this at all and continue to struggle never seeing the success that they wish to.

Now what do I mean by outsourcing? I mean delegating out the tasks that you can give to someone else so that you can focus on the things that make you money, the things that you enjoy, and the things that recharge your batteries so that you don’t burn out.

I personally held back on this for way too long.  I was afraid to give things up because I didn’t think people could do them to my liking or as well as I could. I was afraid of someone I hired outing the fact that I was in the adult industry to the world. I was afraid of not being able to afford it. I was afraid of my content being stolen/shared. I was AFRAID. So what did I do instead? I scraped by and never saw my earnings grow to the level that I had the potential of growing them to, I burned out constantly, I spent hours doing things that didn’t produce income for me while I could have been spending that time getting paid for cam shows or producing more content or finding affiliate opportunities to sell while I slept. I just treaded along as a mediocre camgirl and let my fear hold me back.

Now let’s touch on this fear thing. Fear is fucking stupid.  I mean it’s important in a primal sense, like it’s meant to keep you alive in life or death situations, it’s literally in most cases worrying about something that you have no idea is going to happen and allowing that worry to hold you back from doing something.  Let’s examine each one of these stupid fears I had:

  • Afraid to give things up (being a perfectionist and a control freak): How many successful brands that you love are owned by people who refuse to delegate anything out because they are so sure that no one else can do it as good as them? And seriously why is this something to be scared about? What’s the worst that could happen? I fix something that was mostly done for me already? I find someone else who does the job better? How is this worse than struggling in a non-performing business or my business failing?
  • Afraid of someone I hire outing me to the world: Really? Who the hell that is looking for a job and to get paid would rather out some stranger that is giving them work and paying them? What are the odds of that? And what really is the worst that could happen if I won the asshole lottery and ended up with someone that would do that? Would I die? No.
  • Afraid of not being able to afford it: The simple fact that I hired someone FORCED me to grow into a person who made more money just so that I could pay them! It was one of the best decisions I made to increase my earnings. It held me more accountable and it freed up my time so that I could do the things that were making me money instead of spending my time with non-income producing tasks.
  • Afraid of my content being stolen/shared: Seriously? Our content gets shared anyway without it benefiting our business at all and I’m going to worry about it here and now? Again, who the hell that is looking to get hired for pay is going to have such an ulterior motive? I did my due diligence, I screened, I used my smarts and my instincts, and I found great people to work with that I trust. Our content is naturally copyrighted and if anything like that did arise, we’d have a legal right to go after that person. Again, this is not a fucking life or death situation, it’s a BUSINESS GROWTH situation.

Now we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, I hope you’re beginning to see how these fears can hold you back in your business and not serve you.  If we’re not doing things that are out of our comfort zone, we’re not getting anywhere, because no one grows inside of their comfort zone.

When you delegate out you are not only able to focus on income producing, you’re also able to keep up momentum and avoid burnout. Momentum brings consistency in your business and you avoid the start/stop cycle of pushing yourself until you can’t go anymore and then crashing for three days on the couch and no being able to do anything.

You can get rid of the tasks that you’re not good at.  You can focus on your strengths and let someone else handle the things that you’re not so strong at.  There is actually a book I suggest for finding your top 5 strengths called Now, Discover Your Strengths.  There is an assessment you take that reveals these strengths to you.  The code for the assessment used to come with new copies, but because the book is out of print these days and the codes were unique to each book, I suggest buying a cheap used copy and paying for the quiz separately here. You can also take the quiz alone but taking it after reading the book gives you an even better understanding of your strengths and how to apply them.

WHAT TO OUTSOURCE

This is by no means an exhaustive list.  This is coming from my experience and my knowledge.  You figure out what YOU want to get rid of in your tasks, what you’re best at, etc.

  • Video Editing- This was a major one for me. I produce a lot of clips for sites like ManyVids and Clips4Sale, and I’ve spent many years editing those clips.  While I found it fun and interesting for a while to develop that skill and have become proficient in using Adobe Premiere Pro CC, I don’t want to be a professional video editor and I don’t get paid for it, so when I spend the better part of a day editing my videos, that is time and money lost in my business.  I was able to find an editor who was already working with adult material and it has been a lifesaver.  You can find freelancers ready to do this work on Xbiz.net, and on sites like Fiverr and Upwork.  You have to be careful about posting ads on Upwork about adult work though because they will consider this “adult content” and take it down.  It’s best to make a posting for an editor and then discuss the details with them privately. Start with people who are already in the adult industry though to save yourself some headache.
  • Graphic Design- Making graphics is somethings else that can be fun to learn and do but is ultimately time consuming and can be quite frustrating and bring you mediocre results if you’re not a pro. It’s best to have someone else handle your graphic design. Say you want some nice images to post on Twitter or Instagram, or some graphics or banners/buttons for your blog and advertising.  You can find people on Fiverr willing to do this for cheap or you can hire ongoing graphic design.  I work with and recommend Design Pickle. They offer unlimited graphic design every month (no logo and branding work, but if you bring them your already done logos and things that you can get done on Fiverr they will use them in your work). They will pair you up with a dedicated designer and are fine with adult work.
  • Data entry/blogging/YouTube management- I manage multiple YouTube accounts and personally found someone on Onlinejobs.PH to handle uploading my videos and populating all the required fields/uploading my thumbnail etc. This site finds workers in the Philippines that are willing to do all types of work from virtual assistants to SEO. Because of the exchange rate, you can pay someone $5 per hour American and it works out to be very acceptable pay for them. They’re also awesome people to work with and I’ve always been happy with who I’ve hired.  If you manage a website/blog it can also be great to outsource your SEO optimization and even blog posting and sharing.
  • Get Yourself a Virtual Assistant!!- There are so many small tasks that can add up to so much time that you can give to someone else. For example: scheduling appointments, researching things like the best place nearby to learn scuba diving (I’ve used an assistant for this personally), making reservations, booking flights. Scheduling texts. You can find virtual assistants on any of the freelancing sites I’ve mentioned prior.  There’s also an amazing app that I use personally called Fin.  It combines actual people with artificial intelligence and gives you access to virtual help 24 hours a day. All you have to do is input the task you need either by email or in the app and someone will help you with what you need immediately.  They can send texts/emails on your behalf, populate your calendar for you, etc.  It’s a lifesaver and nowadays I couldn’t live without it!
  • Housekeeping- Let someone else clean your fucking house! Seriously. You wanna be a millionaire one day? Millionaires don’t fucking scrub their own bathrooms. They spend time making bank. Find yourself a local service that will come in once every two weeks and give your whole house a good cleaning. I’ve personally gone the extra step and found a great girl on Care.com that also comes twice a week and does my laundry, washes my dishes, and scoops the damn cat boxes, because none of that shit makes me money.
  • Childcare- In the spirit of trying to do it all myself, I used to both take on a full time camgirl that doesn’t accept help from anyone else’s duties AND homeschool my daughter. This was  godamned nightmare and I got nothing done.  I eventually put her in private school so that I could have time during the day to work and not have to stay up all night camming. I’m not saying you have to put your kid in private school, that’s not for everyone. I’m saying that if you’re killing yourself taking care of your kids because you’re afraid no one else can do it as good as you… STOP. Let someone else help. There are tons of amazing people out there that love kids and love to help others. Once again Care.com is a wonderful place to find childcare and you can even order background checks from the site.
  • Errands/Grocery Delivery- Are you lucky enough to have TaskRabbit in your city? USE IT. Have someone else go pick up the cat’s Prozac for you. Let them drop off/pick up your dry cleaning. Have them take your panty packages to the post office. That’s an hour you could be spending on your business. My life completely changed after I started using Instacart and Shipt apps to have my groceries delivered. I’ve also found me a great errand boy on Care.com because I don’t yet have TaskRabbit where I live. Soon I hope…
  • Social Media Management- Keeping up with constantly posting on your social media accounts in an effective way for marketing is a huge task and can take up a lot of time and become super distracting. Ever go to post one picture and end up scrolling/responding to people for 20 minutes or longer? Let someone else handle this for you.  There are plenty of freelancers and agencies out there that do exactly this type of thing and some are even adult industry specific.

Now you’ve seen a ton of suggestions on what you can give to others to make your life easier, and most likely come up with some on your own.  Now it’s time to take action on them. And look at it this way… not only will you be helping yourself out, you’ll be helping whomever helps you out as well.

Ultimately some of you reading this by this point will be saying “Yeah right like I could afford that. Who is this Roselynn chick and who does she think she is? I can barely afford my rent this month yadda yadda yadda”.

Look… you can either be mad at me for sharing my experience and getting the help I need in order to keep a successful business going, complain and stay where you’re at, or get the help you need for YOU to be successful. Your choice.

And if you’re just starting out, learn what you need to, and then teach someone else to do it for you ASAP.  You will grow faster in your business and see amazing results quicker.

Cheers!
